I also really loved the idea of having sisters – friends for life – instead of temporary, sometimes unfulfilling relationships. Favorite activities: Video games, and girls’ nights! When I found out that a large part of sororities is their dedication to philanthropy, it seemed like the perfect way for me to get involved. All the girls were so sweet and funny, and so real. I knew I wanted to hang out with them more. Now I’m making new friends, giving back to the community, getting involved in events around the school, and I’m having so much fun! Favorite activities: fibreglassing/sailboat repair, power boating, reading fantasy novels, singing in the shower, and photo-bombing. Big Sister: Mel Williamson Little Sister(s): Lisa Kester |

Favorite activities: DIY Crafts, painting, drawing, reading, writing, baking and cooking and being a Disney princess. Big Sister: Beverly Smith Little Sister(s): Michelle Malik, Lillian Lu |

Member since: Fall 2013 Position in ΣΛΓ: Alumna University: University of Waterloo Program/Major: Undecided, but hoping to major in Economics Year Graduated: 2017 Reasons for joining ΣΛΓ: Growing up, I have always been very close to my younger sister. When I left for University, it was very hard for both of us to adjust and digest the idea of living away from each other. Even when it came to friends, I’ve always had a set of very close-knitted group I’d see and hangout with almost everyday. Leaving them behind was very hard too. I heard about sororities in Waterloo from a friend, and I found out about SLG when I accompanied her to Clubs Day and from various other people too. I decided to rush hoping to find the same kind of bonds I shared with my sister and close friends, even though I was skeptical. To be honest, I knew SLG was where I wanted to be when I went to their very first rush event. These women were not at all how they portrayed sorority girls in various movies. Instead, they were strong, driven and held very high morals and beliefs. I could relate to them and learn from them as every sister had something unique to offer. I also realized that joining SLG would benefit my Academic, Social and Personal life. I’m glad I took the initiative to join and now I’m a part. I already feel like I have a family here. Favorite activities: I’m a huge fashion person so I love shopping and trying out new looks. I’ve almost been all around the globe because I enjoy meeting new people, trying out new cuisines and exploring and traveling to new countries. In my free time, I love rocking out to my music, hanging out with my friends and most importantly, sleeping. If you’re down to try out something crazy, count me in. I believe living in the moment and living life to the fullest. Big Sister: Elaine Brekelmans Little Sister(s): Sana Sajid, Vivian Mac |

Member since: Fall 2013 Position in ΣΛΓ: Alumna University: University of Waterloo Program/Major: Honours Social Development Studies, Psychology Minor, Human Resources Management Minor Year Graduated: 2015 Reasons for joining ΣΛΓ: I always wanted to get more out of my university experience other than just a degree. I knew about SLG from my roommate Sanaya Mistry, and decided to check out what sororities are all about. I rushed every sorority on campus and found that the ideals and principles of Sigma Lambda Gamma aligned with mine. I left every SLG rush event feeling welcomed and a greater sense of belonging; these ladies were genuine, kind and inclusive. Above all, their dedication and commitment to community service was very inspiring. From the process of pledging to being initiated to post-initiation, the ladies of Sigma Lambda Gamma have shown me what sisterhood really meant, that it’s more than just a label. It’s a special bond between a group of women who share the same values and principles who are there to pick you up during your failures and darkest times, tell you you’re worth it when you feel worthless, give you so much hope when you don’t have it in yourself and celebrate all your achievements. Being an only child all my life, I didn’t get to experience the bond between siblings- having someone you can experience different things with, having that person you can tell everything to and who you can rely on during rough times and someone who accepts and loves you for who you are. I can definitely say that I have found that bond with my sisters in Sigma Lambda Gamma. Favorite activities: I’m a foodie- I love to cook and also trying out different kinds of food, one of my guilty pleasures is playing Sims 3; watching TV shows like HIMYM, Big Bang Theory and just recently New Girl; I love all Disney things; I love to laugh-I enjoy puns, pick-up lines, and other witty remarks; love to socialize with friends and meet new people; having deep philosophical/psychological discussions; tea obsessed; love to volunteer; and I not only sing, but perform in the shower. I’ve made friends throughout my years at waterloo, but had never really bonded or connected with any of them. I had walked into my first rush event hesitant, but by the end of the night I knew ΣΛΓ was the perfect fit for me. I couldn’t believe how well I connected with every single sister, as well as my pledge class. I’m so honored to be a part of this sisterhood, and am thankful every single day for these amazing women who have change my life! Favorite activities: I love singing, reading, dancing, teaching, spending time with my family and friends, and most of all: hanging out with my sisters Big Sister: Beverly Smith Little Sister(s): Kelly Wray, Rachel Hammermueller |
