At first, when I came to the recruitment events I assumed SLG was another club, similar to the ones I joined in high school, and was a way to improve my interpersonal skills and a great networking opportunity. After being initiated, I now find SLG is a second family, and it is one of the best decisions I have made since I have been at UW. Favorite activities: I enjoy playing volleyball, soccer, field hockey, and the piano. I also enjoy travelling and I hope I get the opportunity to teach or volunteer overseas. As she told me more about it, it seemed more like something I would enjoy. When I went to the first rush event, I felt really welcomed by everyone and it really seemed like something I wanted to join. I am looking forward to the opportunity to get to know more people, participate in philanthropy and hopefully in the future be a bigger part of SLG Favorite activities: Playing soccer, baking and music. I prefer having a close group of friends, and that was something that attracted me to SLG. I found out about the sorority through one of my friends, and I hope that SLG can one day become an extended family to me. Favorite activities: I enjoy travelling, and hope to travel the world some day. One day I plan to open a school and a soup kitchen in the Philippines. I go through many hobbies and phases, and those were the ones that I have consistently returned to. My current obsession is the Rubik’s Cube, and I’m hoping to solve the 4×4 soon. I learned that joining a sorority meant being able to connect on a personal and intimate level with a group of awesome girls who become your sisters. I realized that joining a sorority would benefit me greatly in terms of my social, academic, and personal life. The values that SLG holds share a common ground with my beliefs. Once I got to meet the sisters, I knew that Sigma Lambda Gamma is where I belong. Favorite activities: My hobbies include painting, reading, socializing, and hugging trees. Member since: Fall 2011 Position in ΣΛΓ: Alumna University: Waterloo Program/Major: Arts & Business Joint Honours Drama & Speech Communication Year Graduated:2014 Reasons for joining ΣΛΓ: I found out about Greek life in general when I was in the play “Single and Sexy” with my friend. When I began to rush the sororities, I started to fall in love with the ideals and girls of Sigma Lambda Gamma – they were the most inclusive and fun girls to be around. From all of the Greek life on campus: SLG’s rush events were the most organized and friendly. After attending every SLG rush event I had made up my mind. I wanted to commit to something I fully believed in; I wanted to become a sister of Sigma Lambda Gamma. Favorite activities: My hobbies and interests are performing arts (drama, dance, vocals) and sports (hockey, rugby, soccer, Frisbee). I also enjoy spending my time doing charity work, geocaching, shopping, camping/anything outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
