Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the benefits of joining a sorority?
A: When you join a sorority you join a wider network of people, both sisters from the past and present. You get the opportunity to build your leadership skills as well as grow as an individual. It also gives you a close support system that will be there throughout your university life and beyond. These are just some of the benefits of joining a sorority, different sisters experience different benefits, it all depends what you as a young woman are looking for!

Q: What is the cost? and is it expensive?
A: The cost varies from term to term depending on the need of the sorority. We do our best to keep costs low but, we offer different payment plans and methods so that every sister is able to pay their dues.

Q: Are you just paying for friends?
A: This is a common misconception and doesn't come close to the truth. Joining a sisterhood it isn't something that can be bought. These are genuine relationships formed through trust, understanding, and care for one another. The financial costs for joining are simply to cover the different activities we take part in and the different items we may receive. So you can think of it as the equivalent of having your night out at a party, formal event, pizza night, etcetera paid for!

Q: I heard some Greek organizations haze their pledges, do you?
A: Absolutely not- hazing doesn't promote the healthy, fun, and safe relationships we want to have with one another. Nor does it unify the sisterhood in any way. We make sure that all our members are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. We will never do anything to physically, mentally, or emotionally harm you.

Q: What is initiation? What do you do?
A: Initiation is a culmination of everything that has been learned and experienced through pledgeship. Like all Greek organizations it is exclusively shared between its members only. It is a very memorable time for both pledges and sisters, like with the pledge process there is absolutely no hazing. As for what we do it is kept secret with those participating in it but, we can assure you that it is completely safe and totally fun.

Q: What is the time commitment like? Do I have to participate in everything?
A: The time commitment involved with our sorority really depends on what you can personally handle, the only mandatory commitments we ask you to make are towards once a week meetings (which are usually 2 hours or less), and once a term initiation/bid meetings. Just like any other club if you choose to join an executive or non-executive team this may mean more time commitments. Of course these positions are voluntary and you are under no obligation to hold these positions.

Q: Is there a certain academic average you need to achieve to join?
A: We understand that different sisters have different perceptions of accomplishment and vary in their academics, because of this diversity the academic average we ask you to achieve is simply the minimum required by your program. Of course we will try to make sure each sister achieves her best and we make sure we keep school high on our list of priorities.

Q: I heard Greeks party and drink a lot, is that true?
A: This is a stereotype that people often pick up from movies and the media, the truth is yes--sort of. We party, we drink if we're of age, but it never gets out of control like is seen in the movies. We have standards for our sisters on how they should present themselves at Greek social events where alcohol is involved. Safety is our first priority at social events. We will never force sisters or pledges to drink, and do not allow any underage drinking at social events. We also have guidelines to follow when it comes to taking care of our sisters at social events and making sure they stay safe.
Sisters are also not obligated to attend social events that take place if they don't feel up to it, attendance is voluntary. For those sisters that don't drink, we also attend many and host social events that involve no alcohol at all!

Q: You girls seem pretty cool, how do I join?
A: Come see us at our events during recruitment week and we'll tell you more about how to join our amazing sisterhood! Also don't hesitate to send us an email if you have any questions.
